Truth or Consequences, New Mexico

I love the Southwest! And July and August are great months to be here. There's always so much to see and do in New Mexico and in Albuquerque in particular, but when the warm weather is upon us, hijole! the place gets jumping. (I'm not sure if I spelled it right, but it's pronouced ee-ho-lay, and it means ~ very roughly translated ~ whoa baby!). My favorite, but just the tip of the iceberg: balmy summer nights listening to music at the Botanical Gardens Thursdays or at the Zoo on Fridays.

For a more detailed list of what's happening in Albuquerque, visit our Convention and Visitor's website at http://www.itsatrip.org/events/default.aspx.

My highlighted activity for this post is a day trip down to Truth or Consequences, New Mexico (or, "T or C" to everyone in New Mexico). I actually don't really want to tell you about it, because I like that it's a well-kept secret. That way it stays quiet there for me! But I know you'll save some room for me, so here goes... Okay, now the story is too long for me to tell here, but suffice it to say that T or C got it's name from a game show dare. You can read the whole story at http://www.truthorconsequencesnm.net/area_TorC_ralph_edwards.htm. Now to the trip...

I start out mid morning and head south on I-25 towards T or C. My first stop on my next trip into town will be the Geronimo Springs Museum (see photo above). I have yet to visit, and I know there is vital information about this great little town that I am missing due to my not yet having been to the museum. When lunchtime arrives, I pick one of the many little restaurants that dot the downtown strip. There's a variety to choose from, and I have found them all good. Or I pack my own lunch and find a quite spot to watch the town life go by as I eat.

Then it's off to soak. The town was called Hot Springs before the game show adventure, and that is what I am there for! There are several places to soak. One of the best is the Firewater Lodge, Bed and Breakfast. So pack a suit!

At sunset I want to be at the Veteran's Memorial Park. It is the home of one of the two original Traveling Vietnam Veteran's Memorial Walls. It's a to scale size replica of the wall in Washington D.C. In addition to the Wall, there are plaques to all the major wars, with information on each, set into a star shaped walking path. When I was last there, it looked like a pond was also in the works. As the sun sinks down below the hills to the west, I walk over to the ceremonial area, to stand at the end of the path at the top of the hill overlooking the residential section of town and as the sky and air itself are infused with that lovely pink glow that we are known for in the southwest, and I listen to the quiet sounds of T or C settling in for the night, I know I've spent the day well.

So now I've spilled the beans, but I do wish you a wonderful trip to Truth or Consequences if you ever (or when you next) go.

But, what's happening here at the hotel? I'm so glad you asked! We still have our golf Stay and Play packages and our Big Splash Weekends. August brings our Back to School Special - let us make a hetic time easy and fun for the whole family.

We hope you have a lovely summer, and we look forward to serving you soon.

Wishing you a safe a prosperous journey until we meet,
Barbara
